10 Off-The-Wall Elvis Songs To Add To Your Playlist

Elvis RecordsElvis had so many songs during his lifetime, like over 700, but is continuously known for hits like “Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock”, and “Burning Love”. Though I may love these songs, I know there is so much more to Elvis and his music.

Since becoming an Elvis fan at the age of five, I have listened to his music as often as I could. Discovering new songs and constantly changing favorites. Over 20 years of fandom, I am fairly confident on my Elvis music knowledge. (Though I know there are still songs to be discovered!)

My favorite Elvis songs now are what I like to call “off-the-wall”. If you aren’t an Elvis fan or familiar with his music, you may have never heard of any of these songs. Give them a try, and open yourself to these lesser known Elvis songs.

Here are 10 of my favorite “off-the-wall” Elvis songs (in no particular order):

1. Heart of Rome

I wake up to this song every morning. “In a little while you’re leaving…” Not like I need Elvis to tell me I have to get up and go to work, but it does give my day a nice start.

2. Sound of Your Cry

Heart of Rome may get me out of bed in the morning, but Sound of Your Cry reminds me to hit my snooze. Syncing it perfectly to start at “sleep my love”.

3. We Can Make The Morning

Back in the day, this was my last call for waking up. Elvis encouraging me that I can be a morning person if I tried. All joking aside (even if that is actually a true statement), this is my all time favorite Elvis song. Absolutely number 1. Other favorites may change, but this never will.

This song means so much to me and other Elvis fans because it reminds us of the Candlelight Vigil held every year at Graceland to honor Elvis’s memory on the anniversary of his passing. “Fate holds out a candle for your footsteps, time rolls back the shadows of you mind. It’s a long, long lonely night. You can make the morning if you try.”

4. Moody Blue

Not only a favorite off-the-wall hit, but also a top 5 favorite overall. This blog is named after this song/album. I am Moody Blue. When I hear this song I actually laugh because he is singing about me. At least I can admit it!

Moody Blue was Elvis’s final album before his untimely death.

5. T-R-O-U-B-L-E

This song. I literally sat for days listening to this song over and over again to memorize the lyrics. Not only am I proud to know every single one, but this song also happens to be my jam! Every time it comes on I find myself dancing along and singing like a crazy person! Though I am clearly not the woman Elvis is singing about, I like to pretend that I am.

6. Any Day Now

Oh goodness this song. I swear I can hear Elvis’s pain in it. So desperate not to lose the one he loves, but terrified he will anyway. It’s tragically beautiful and his passion is exactly why this song made the list.

The entire From Elvis in Memphis Album, which is where this song comes from, provides some of Elvis’s best vocals. Finally able to get back into what he loves best and singing songs he’s passionate about. It’s worth the listen.

7. It’s Midnight

This song gives me so many feels. I can’t even put into words. Just give this song a listen and you’ll understand when you hear Elvis get into it.

8. Help Me Make It Through The Night

This is definitely one of Elvis’s sexiest songs he ever recorded. His vocals are just absolutely incredible. I can’t even describe how much I love this song…

9. Stranger in the Crowd

Before I met my husband, I was extremely lonely. We had a blind date so when we met we were basically strangers. After our first date I knew we were going to get married. I had no doubts. This song reminds me so much of our first date and I love it so much

10. My Boy

Elvis pours his heart out in this song. Just listen to it and you’ll understand.

Even with the covers Elvis did, he still managed to make those songs his very own. With his love for music, if he heard a song and connected to it, he wanted to record it. Having Elvis record one of your songs was an honor.

This was WAY too difficult to even choose a top 10. Be on the look-out for another list of off-the-wall Elvis songs soon. Out of over 700 songs, how can we limit ourselves??

Did your favorite off-the-wall song make the list? Let me know in the comments! Maybe it will make the next list.
