Favorite Elvis Songs from the 1950s

The 1950s was a time of evolution for music. As Elvis jumped on the scene, he was able to open up doors for artists that would have never been given a chance before. With his assistance, Rock ‘N Roll was born and music was changed forever.

Elvis was able to experiment with sounds and was revolutionary to the music of the 1950s. During this time, Elvis was recording covers and giving “white music” a new sound. Each cover Elvis recorded, he made it his own and created his own hit in his own right.

Here is a list of my Top 5 favorite songs of the 1950s:

5. Any Way You Want Me (That’s How I Will Be)

The range Elvis possesses in this song showcases how talented he actually was. From the sweet melodic tones to the powerhouse vocals, his talent shines through in this song.

4. I Want You, I Need You, I Love You

Similar to Any Way You Want Me (That’s How I Will Be), this song is filled with melodic changes and a range that only Elvis could pull off. The urgency in his voice makes the meaning behind this song that much more believable. (Plus the beginning guitar riff is so iconic – I can’t even!)

3. One Night Of Sin/One Night With You

The OG release of this song was incredible – but too ahead of its time. Because of the connotation behind the song, Elvis was forced back into the recording studio to rerecord the song with the One Night With You version. Personally, One Night of Sin is so much better!

2. Trying To Get To You

This particular song was so close to being #1, but I had to put this at #2 for reasons I will explain later. When I first became an Elvis fan at the age of 5, my parents gifted me with a cassette tape that would forever change my life.

This was the first song and the first Elvis song I remember hearing. Not only is this story a reason this made the top 5 list, but the vocals in this song are just incredible. It’s no surprise Elvis became a huge sensation – and a reason for parents to worry 🙂

1. That’s All Right

This is the record that skyrocketed Elvis. This is the song that started a sensation and started Elvis’s career. The sound was new and it launched a musical movement. That’s All Right could only be #1 as it altered music forever.

Honorable mentions:

Don’t Be Cruel

Peace in the Valley

Blue Moon of Kentucky

Baby, Let’s Play House
