How to Celebrate Earth Day Like a King. Well, Elvis.
“If I can dream of a warmer sun, where hope keeps shining on everyone”
-Elvis Presley, If I Can Dream, 1968
April 22, 2020, marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. It is a day of observance to inspire people across the globe to take action and change their behavior to create a better Earth.
Elvis had a more spiritual way of thinking and loved spending time outdoors connecting with nature. Though this is not how many of us intended on spending Earth Day, or any day for that matter, there are many ways for us to celebrate Earth Day Elvis-fan style.
Follow these steps to have an Elvis-inspired Earth Day!
Elvis Playlist
For starters, it is ALWAYS important to have the perfect Elvis playlist – Earth Day is no exception. The Spotify playlist below has a few favorites to get you ready for Earth Day!
Spend Time Outdoors
Now that we set the mood, it’s time to get in the mindset of Elvis. Elvis was an extremely spiritual person that loved connecting with nature. It is no wonder he had a special place, the Meditation Garden, constructed at his home. Elvis would often spend time outdoors to clear his mind and have a deeper connection to the world around him. Today, set aside time to take a walk within nature – even if it is just around the block. Sit outdoors, listen to the sounds and clear your mind of clutter.
Use Your Skills For Good
Elvis had a giving heart and would do just about anything to help those in need. If Elvis were alive today, there would be zero doubt he would be hosting concerts live from the Jungle Room wearing blue pajamas. You’re totally envisioning it right now, aren’t you? After finding inspiration outdoors, think about the impact you are making in the world. With the global crisis that surrounds us, so many are feeling helpless and want to do more. Even though many of us are stuck indoors, there are many ways we can get involved.
Though making a donation of money may not be in the cards for many of us, we all possess unique skills that we can use to make a difference. For example, if you can sew, take leftover fabric and make masks for friends, family and neighbors. Maybe you have specialized skills that could help nonprofits. Visit Volunteer Match or Taproot Foundation to search for open volunteer positions that would benefit from your skills. If you have a talent, spread it on social media! We could all use a good distraction from the world around us. The possibilities are endless with how you can help others during this time.
Watch an Elvis Movie
Any day is a good excuse to watch an Elvis movie – Earth Day is just another reason. To close out Earth Day, watch an Elvis film with a beautiful landscape.
